Yesterday I discovered regret on the
2:30 to Toronto
it cost only twenty dollars
a bargain really
For me it was that old case of
unrequited mistaken
loneliness
my travelling companion, at a third my age was world weary
jaded
as I told stories and fairy tales
and sketched his violent visions of harpies and eagles
the harpies putrid in their hideous glory as
his eye darted nervously to his sleeping father
on the seat beside him
and I longed not for love but
for innocence
