But his instincts tell him he won’t be in it. McKellen recently spoke to Empire Magazine about the film and stated that the screenplay had not been given to him and so he assumes that it would revolve around the younger incarnation of his character from the X-men films. Many fans realize and understand this approach, but we’d like to see McKellen in there to some extent. Possibly narrating the story from present day…

Bryan Singer wants his X-men back…
Looks like it’s definitely back to the well for Singer and the X-men franchise. After an attempted revival of the Superman franchise (and most likely a falling out with Warner Bros – they also pulled the release of Trick ‘r Treat for straight to dvd to years after it was made (Singer was producer)) Brian Singer has stated his intentions to revisit the franchise that he demonstrated an abundance of understanding for = the X-men. Rumors have been circulating for a while that he would return and that X4 would be on the way, and it now seems as though it’s true. The director also stated that he has been in talks with Fox about the return.
Ryan Reynolds talks both Deadpool and Green Lantern
Ryan Reynolds recently appeared on Jimmy Fallon and spoke about both of his comic properties. While he was tight lipped about details on the Green Lantern film, he did get the word out about the character and demonstrated knowledge of the comic book. So that was a plus. He then went on to speak about Deadpool – confirming that he will in fact be playing both characters in separate films…for separate studios…and separate comic companies. Say what you want about continuity and confusion and stuff, Reynolds must be a hell of a businessman to swing 2 characters the way he is.
David Goyer talks about Ghost Rider sequel…
So it’s been long stated that David Goyer’s original Ghost Rider script from 9 years ago would have been a fantastic film. Then, Mark Stephen Johnson came in and the studio went in a different direction. Now, with the “failure” of the first film, the studio is revisiting Goyer’s script and will indeed bring it to life as a sequel to Johnson’s film. Goyer has gone on record saying that the dark tone will be preserved, but some moments may go a bit differently as the original script was intended for an R rating and the studio would like to aim for PG-13. No word on whether or not Johnson is returning to direct. – Also, WB confirmed on Friday that the production would be moving from Australia to either Mexico or Canada due to economic problems.
The Flash makes a pit stop…
Just as fast as news broke that development on the feature film origins of The Flash broke, the counter news to that broke. Almost as if the Flash delivered both news items himself. Producer Charles Roven spoke about the studio speaking with him about the development of the film not going in the direction that they wanted. A short while later, screenwriter (when the hell they hired a new screenwriter came out of left field) Dan Mazeau said that the film was coming along nicely and comic writer Geoff Johns was still consulting. He went on to add that fans of The Flash have nothing to be worried about and went on further to say they should be excited more than anything.
Venom film still on it’s way…
Gary Ross, the current writer on Spider-man 4, was announced to be the new screenwriter on the solely based Venom film. There’s also talks that Ross will also direct the film. No word from the studio on whether Topher Grace will be reprising the role.
Transformers ain’t done yet…
Michael Bay announced the release date for Transformers 3 – July 1, 2011. The director confirmed that a story worth telling had been found and that he had been in meetings with ILM to begin the process. He went on to offer a tongue in cheek welcome back to Megan Fox who will no doubt be returning. After this announcement, Hasbro made sure it was known that the release date of “Battleship” was moved to the start of August as to not have competition between the two films. For those of you who would roll your eyes to this story, remember the quality of the first film and remember the 2nd film was the result of the studio rushing the script before the writers strike. I’m fairly confident this next installment will satisfy people who were upset with Transformers 2.
Sam Raimi critiques Spider-man 3 and talks 4
Sam Raimi has been doing press for Drag Me To Hell’s DVD release and no doubt is being bombed with questions about the next Spider-man film.
Asked about complaints that there were too many villains in Spider-Man 3, he said: "I think having so many villains detracted from the experience. I would agree with the criticism. I think I've learned about the importance of getting to the point and the importance of having limitations, and I'm hoping to take that into a production where I'm actually allowed to explore with more of the tools to pull it off with a little more splendor. I hope I don't lose that edge that I've just found. That would be my approach to 'Spider-Man 4': to get back to the basics." – Spider-man 4 is due out May 5, 2011.
