Wes Craven was born in Ohio in 1939, Craven followed an odd path from teaching humanities into filmmaking. His first feature was 1972’s The Last House on the Left, which, with its follow-up The Hills Have Eyes, was a big success and branded Wes a maestro of the horror genre. (These Craven classics have recently been remade to less success.) Perhaps his most enduring legacies are the Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream franchises. Having “Wes Craven’s…” in a horror title holds enduring cache.
