Born in Texas in 1969, Wes got into storytelling by writing and staging plays in high school. He met Owen Wilson in university, and their joint amateur short film Bottle Rocket earned attention at the Sundance Film Festival. His next feature, Rushmore, was based on the school where Wes put on his plays, and marked the beginning of his mainstream directorial successes. Martin Scorsese named Anderson as “the next Martin Scorsese”.
