11 Questions with Walter Jeffreyes. FALL 2009 Feature Screenplay Finalist

1. What is your screenplay about?

A starship warrior, and hero from an extremely advanced galaxy where the superior beings are predominantly black, teams up with a black gunfighter in the 1880's to fight an evil scientist, who plans a destructive take over of Earth. In the enter um there's a westbound wagon train and Native Americans to contend with.

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

I saw a chance to write about westerns and science-fiction on one channel so to speak.

True, there have been some movies of this nature, but I don't believe it has been written in this caliber. And I love both genres.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

I've been writing screenplays for about four years, before that I was writing short stories, poems and a science-fiction novel that was self-published.

4. What film have you watched the most in your lifetime?

There are about five films that fit this category, but "Kings of the Sun" stands out.

5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?

Would live to have director David Twohy to a crack at my screenplay.

6. Who was your hero growing up?

As I'm sure others can relate, growing up on the eastside of Baltimore was kinda rough, but what made it easier was this tough white policeman on the beat we called, "Little Joe." Yep, tough as nails, but showing a knack for dealing with us (the kids) no matter the color of the skin. 7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

To be honest, other than writing screenplays and pushing for one or more to become feature films, I like where I am right now. Still, in five years my thoughts may change.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

Well, I sit and contemplate for awhile, maybe two days or more, then suddenly the mood hits me, and WHAM I'm rolling along. Usually when I take a break to watch a movie or read a book, the juice starts flowing once more, than WHAM, I'm at it again.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Movies, old and new, but with "flavor". Not the 'QUICK" films I see on certain cable stations where the flaws are sooo apparent. Reading is another habit. Also, watching "football" Also making sure the "little lady" has enough help with her Child Care business. 10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

I saw a write-up about WILDsound on MySpace web site after hearing about the Script contest from other writers. Once I visited the site, I was captured by the professionalism andease of use. 11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Yep. Look, don't let the rejection letters and negative comments get you down. You know what you have. It came from your head, not theirs, it's not your fault they don't want to take the time to see what you have. Keep pushing your writing, eventually it will make an eruption.
