REVIEW:
Writer/Producer Judd Apatow (Superbad, 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Talledega Nights) is on a roll as he delivers another very funny film. The Dewey Cox Story isn't the greatest comedy ever made, but it certainly hits the radar!
This is one of those films where the star has all the weight on their shoulders. If the performance isn't there, the movie isn't there. And John C. Reilly playing Dewey Cox legendary musician, is tremendous. This is perhaps one of the greatest comedic performances in the last 10 years.
Walk Hard The Dewey Cox Story is a silly make you laugh comedy filled with male frontal nudity and some terrific musical numbers. It's not for everyone but it's one of those films that will live for years in the home video world as certain scenes
will be watched over and over again. As a whole it has some flaws as it seemed like it needed one more draft in the screenplay and really tighten up the jokes. But you kind of let that slide because John C. Reilly is so good.
These type of spoof films are really hit or miss films. It can get too silly and stupid as many of these movies have done where there really isn't any story at all and the film isn't about anything. But director Jake Kasdan has a real nice pulse on this film. He basically directs it like it's a drama bio-pic piece and lets the actors and the script make the comedy. This is a film that won't win any awards but Kasdan deserves come accolades for his work in this film.
Overall I recommend that anyone go see this film because there's something for everyone. And I'm sure too that there's also moments that you will think is more silly than funny. This is a good film that could of been great but it's still up there.
