Vince Onken has always loved film, and from the time he got his first movie camera as a kid until present day he’s been in and around the process of making films.
As far as directing goes, in his opinion he thinks most direction should be inconspicuous, seamless in such a way as to not draw attention to itself, and he knows that being prepared for the day’s work is the key to any Director’s success. Most importantly he understands filmmaking is a collaborative effort and that the whole is only as good as the sum of its parts.
Always a film admirer he has viewed countless movies produced from the beginning of time till now. He has studied silent films and old black and whites, and considers “The Bad and the Beautiful” to be one of the best movies ever produced about Hollywood. Of current films he’s always looking for an interesting story whether told in narrative or loaded with CGI, just as long as the idea captures his imagination. Small films like “The Wrestler” and bigger films like “Star Trek” were high on his list this year.
His favorite cartoon bubble: On a moonlit night two penguins are floating on a tiny slab of ice in the middle of an ocean, and one says to the other, “Well, eventually I’d like to Direct.”
