To quit or not to quit that was the question. Haunting me every day for the 6 week long PA job I signed up for.
I finally quit. It really was just too abusive. When I told them I quit and that I draw the line at working for 10 hours without lunch or a break and being screamed at because the Pinkberry was taking too long in rush hour LA traffic. I just can’t put that kind of stress on my body over the Agency yogurt. It’s just too abusive.
As a PA you are on a $200 flat rate for the day. Not belonging to a union you have no rights to overtime or breaks. It is grunt work and people tend to talk down to you and yell because they are stressed and then can. Not all productions are like this. When I worked on John Badham projects none were like that. But in the commercial world it’s been my experience to receive pretty brutal treatment as a PA – this is my second time quitting on a production for the manner in which I was being treated. There are just certain things I won’t put up with and being verbally abused is one of them.
There are other ways to make money, in fact this month I started shooting and editing weddings. It’s great camera operating practice and now as I clumsily work my way through Final Cut I realize a great way to get my editing work in shape.
I got to go to yoga yesterday. My body screamed thank you. I did twelve – sixteen hour days in a row. Three of which were nights into days if nothing else the experience has mad me stronger.
