![]() SUPERHERO NEWSWeek of May 2 2009 by Andrew Kosarko So this week, I figured I’d give a go at the top 10 Superheroes I feel haven’t been given the “green light” yet to make the jump off the page to the screen. Let’s get to it, shall we? 5. Booster Gold Ok, he really should be higher up on my list, but I’m knocking him down for room. Imagine you live in the future, and you’re a kid who’s family has tainted your natural talent and the possibilities of your future are now only struggle and despise. But imagine you get a job as night security at a museum chronicling the superheroes and villains of the world and showcasing their suits and weapons. That’s what happens to Michael Jon Carter, who takes a little bit of technology and his knowledge of past events with him back through time to become a Superhero in our present time. Done not out of tragedy, but out of only personal self glory and arrogance. What you have here is a Batman-ability hero, with humor and arrogance. It’s very easily to mix comedy/drama/and action into this film, 3 aspects that can make it very powerful. It would also be really interesting to see the paradox’s that time travel can make, or in other words, the changes to history a Superhero from the future makes, and how they can be for the worse. It’s almost like if Marty McFly was a Superhero and who doesn’t think that could be cool? No, this is a DC Character believe it or not. You’ve all heard of him, or if you haven’t, does the word, “Shazam” ring a bell? Well that’s the word that Billy Batson has to shout in order to be struck by magical lightning and become the adult superhero, Captain Marvel. Say what you will about the cheesiness of the powers and his villains, hell the whole idea whatsoever. But it’s tough to find a live action superhero that is specifically aimed for kids. Not to mention, if they took him down a semi-serious road or even just crossed him over into another franchise, it would be quite awesome to see him and Superman duke it out. 3. Wonder Woman She’s got to get in here. She’s one of DC’s big three, and not to mention the single biggest female superhero in the world. How often do us guys drag our girlfriends to the movies to see Batman and Spider-man beat the crap out of the bad guys to save the helpless woman? And how many times are the girlfriends sitting there, rolling their eyes as the damsel does one stupid thing after another and once she’s finally caught is too weak to fight back but only whines and claims their man will be the victor of the battle and the (insert witty/bitchy tell off line here) as they glare disgustingly at the villain? Well, it’s about time we men got put in a position of helplessness and need to depend on a capable independent woman to save their ass. It could be a great metaphor for the feminist movement (though hopefully more for equality rather than superiority seeing as many femininsts in my experience confuse the two), same along the lines of the X-men movies are for homosexuals. Once Wonder Woman breaks out of the box, maybe the male oriented superhero films can bring the “damsels” capabilities up a bit and allow us to break some new ground. It’d be a ripple effect. Oh, and not to mention, Wonder Woman is hot, has a great story behind her and is capable of some badass action. That doesn’t hurt either. 2. The Question If there was one Non-superhero superhero I would want to see on screen the most, it’s this guy. The Question, aka Vic Sage, is an investigator of sorts who uses a special chemical to cover his true identity. Unlike most superheroes, his disguise is the basis for his abilities. The Question, is less about throwing punches and more about exposing corruption and unknown conspiracies within the world. He is at times very preachy, but also very zen-like. It’s basically a movie about Rorshach, whom is based off the Question. One way or another, the Question is one of those characters that a strong movie can be made out of. You have an interesting, original character who overthrows government and criminal conspiracies. Not to mention his craziness can be a lighthearted way at injecting some fun in the movie. I can’t see why not to be honest. Goes without saying, the dude is the most in demand superhero to be made into a mainstream film. If you think Iron Man is funny, he’s a friggin rock on a bench compared to Wally West. The Flash’s abilities not only affect his choices and his life style, but his personality. His digestion occurs faster, so he’s always hungry. His mind works faster, so he is able to think of every joke relatable to any situation before you even realize what’s going on. Amidst all of this, he has one of the coolest superpowers to use, because if you get creative enough with it, you can have him do more things than just run fast. His relationship with his woman is also more explored than any other Superhero, and he has the weirdest relationship with most of his rogues gallery of all the heroes. There’s room for comedy, action and just enough left for a little drama to make Flash get the recognition he deserves. CLICK HERE and read April 26th Superhero News!
