Born in England in 1944, Scott initially trained to become a painter. It was his brother Ridley’s formation of a television production company which turned Tony’s sights to film, and Ridley’s Hollywood success which turned Hollywood’s eyes to Tony.
His first feature film was 1983’s The Hunger, which stood out at the time for its rich production values; although considered a failure, it went on to achieve cult status.
1986’s Top Gun, a huge success, handily placed Tony on the A-list, seeing him helm a variety of intense action films to varying degrees of success, such as Days of Thunder, True Romance, and Crimson Tide.
