I have something important to say
I have something to say that matters
That is interesting
So many people are like me
I think are like me
People who made a life in the arts
They started out in so many ways the way I did
They started out making theatre in their living rooms
In their backyards
Whacking away at the keys of a typewriter
In the privacy of a not-so-private room
In the domain of parents who might not have understood
But it’s real
It’s the truth
That this life is legitimate
Others believe it
I should too
I need the supreme confidence that is my birthright
Because I have something to say
I have a lot to say in fact
And I will say it
In case you meant to say it too
