REVIEW:

First thing I have to say is please, please, please do not see this movie and save your money because The Love Guru is perhaps the worst movie I've seen in the last 2 years.

There are so many problems with this film. A lack of any character development, a flimsy plot and really no thematic at all are things to talk about and talk about at length. But for a so called comedy, this is perhaps a film that would insult other comedies when putting it in that genre. The Love Guru deserves another genre all to themselves and for all the wrong reasons because there really isn't anything funny about this film at all.

So I have to wonder what went wrong. The Love Guru was made in the city I live in, so I knew many people in the movie industry that worked on it. And all I can say without disobeying anyone's trust is that this movie seemed to be an excuse for Mike Myers to work on his stand-up act. I guess everyday Myers would come onto set and try things. And with a first time director in Marco Schnabel, I guess there was nothing anyone could do about it.

I guess the plot is about something to do with a spiritual self-help white guy who grew up in India and being hired to help the star player for the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team. Plot seems fine but without any emotional connection to any of the characters (especially Myers), there is no reason for me or any of the audience I was in the theater with to laugh. So we watched for 90 minutes hoping for something from Mr. Austin Powers, but of course left cheated out of their money.

The Love Guru is a movie that left me feeling very angry. It felt like the movie makers tried their hardest to not entertain us at all. Mike Myers is a movie star because he entertains and forces us to emotionally respond to him. So what happened? Time for Myers to find his own Guru and reevaluate his life.

The only positive thing I can say about this film is that Justin Timberlake of all people shines as the big-penis French-Canadian goaltender. He's trying his hardest with this material to give the best performance he can, and he succeeds. The problem is that he has nothing to work with. But Timberlake looks like a pop-star who can actually make that transition from singer to actor.

So again, please, please, please DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE. It could go down as one of the worst movies of all time. And Mike Myers will earn upwards to $30 million for it. And the more people see it, the more he will earn with his back payment contract. Myers has earned enough. Bottom line.

1/2 stars out of 4. Worst movie of 2008!
