I used to be the kind of movie-watcher who’d focus on the latest movies being released, so when my brother wrestled me to get me watch it, I had no choice. I can honestly say that my reaction was not what I had expected. I immediately fell in love with the film. It stars Sean Astin as leader of an eccentric group of kids living in the backblocks of Astoria, Oregan. When their homes are threatened by wealthy businessmen, they come across an old treasure map and begin to search for the gold that can save their beloved lives from being ripped apart. Admittedly, when it comes to it these days, it’d be difficult to find an old map up in your own attic, but one can always hope. The thing with The Goonies is that it’s more than your basic and goofy treasure hunt. Through the years, it has become a cult, loved by film geeks and movie nerds all around. There was certain ‘oomph’ to The Goonies that stopped it from simply being forgotten on VHS Tape and propelled into a film that is remembered and loved worldwide. There are people all around who dislike The Goonies for its goofy characters, predictable plotline and sharp cuts, but the fans will hardly be dissuaded.
