As if Bruce Wayne didn’t have enough money, The Dark Knight surpassed the $1 billion mark this week with it’s IMAX re-release for the Oscars. The Batman Begins follow up has now earned the 2nd highest domestic release, beaten only by Titanic.

Who doubts the Watchmen? –
With a plethora of over marketing and no need to hide back any of the story seeing it’s a strict interpretation of the graphic novel, there’s speculation among the fans that the Watchmen film may not translate directly onto film as well as once thought. Over 70 clips from the film have been released on line, and yet, early word from press and viewings has led many to believe it won’t live up to the hype. Without a doubt the fanboys will love it regardless, but the general audience, will not judge the film based on it’s honor to the comic book, but rather it’s merits as a film.
Superman Unleashed –
The only way Superman was ever chained up was in the imaginations of the film makers involved. Nevertheless, Slashfilm has broke the news that the current working title for the next film, is in fact, Superman Unleashed. Promising to ramp up the action and stakes but offering little to the actual plot and story or character insight.
Iron Man 2 is in the toilet? –
It was announced a while back that both Mickey Rourke and Emily Blunt were attached to star in the follow up to the highly successful Iron Man. Since then, news has been let out that not only would returning star Terrance Howard be replaced, but that both Blunt and Rourke have dropped out of the project. Howard was said to have been let go for numerous reasons and replaced with Don Cheadle because of money demands and trouble on set during shooting of the first installment. Howard has refuted these claims and has no idea what happened, at least, publicly. Rourke has been reported to have dropped out of the project as well because of lack of finance for his role, and Blunt due to scheduling conflicts. One way or another, the success of this film is definitely swinging back and forth. Lastly, Production Designer on Iron Man 2 has reported that his first job after receiving the script was to “design a toilet” for Tony Stark to puke into. Sounds to me like Mr. Stark’s love for Jim Bean will be making an appearance.
Wolverine looking strong –
With Fox having a history for screwing up a plethora of Marvel heroes (Such as Fantastic Four, Daredevil, etc), this one looks pretty good. With the marketing attempt to wrangle in ratings for TV 3 nights in a row the studio took three separate one minute trailers to combine into one giant 3 minute trailer. Which was a bold and interesting move seeing as most trailers are random cuts of scenes where as each of these trailers focused on one specific thing each. The film looks interesting enough and hey, at least we’re finally getting Gambit, that’s all I have to say.
Wonder Woman movie…finally –
Well, not live action at least. Finally, Wonder Woman is getting
a modern feature film. In the well acclaimed “Timm-iverse.” On March 3rd, the DVD will be released and will be a focus on Princess Diana’s origin from Amazonian to American Hero. Bruce Timm and company have always been at the forefront of treating DC characters with the utmost respect in keeping to the source material, updating the stories, having new stories and being able to translate them to new mediums without a problem. I’d definitely check this one out if you get a chance, no matter how much you think Wonder Woman is “just for girls.”
Batman 3 being penned –
Yeah, keep it on the hush-hush. Batman 3 is supposedly being penned as we speak listing Christopher Nolan as the sole screenwriter. According to inside sources, the script concepts have been registered with the WGA and a full screenplay is being worked out as we speak. However it has been announced that Chris Nolan will direct an original film entitled “Inception” as his next project. If I were a fanboy, and I am, I’d keep a weathered eye on this one…
