This week, Marvel Studios officially announced the start of production on Iron Man 2. Pictures have leaked all over the internet of Robert Downey Jr, Gweneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Sam Rockwell in costume heading to the set. Also, Jon Favreau, the director of the film, has stated that shooting with Mickey Rourke has also begun and that he brings everything you would expect. Furthermore, it was rumored this week that Gary Oldman would be involved in the film, portraying Tony Stark’s father. However, since that rumor hit the net, Oldman’s agent has come out to debunk it and state that Gary is very happy working in the Batman franchise and would not turn on it. Iron Man 2 is slated for release next summer.
Just call me…..Venom
Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick confirmed to ComingSoon.net that they have been tapped, and turned in a first draft for Sony’s planned “Venom” solo movie. They were tight lipped about weather or not the film would be a spin off or a separate entity from Spider-man 3. One would find it hard pressed to believe it could be a spin off, given Venom’s misfortunate demise at the climax of the film, but cheaper plot holes have been exploited before.
Sci-Fi channel planning “The Phantom”
Ryan Carnes will star as The Phantom in a Sci-Fi original production of The Phantom. You may recognize the title from the mid-90’s film starring Billy Zane, but this adaptation is a modernized event. Photos have been released online of some of the concept art for the Phantom’s costume and it looks like something out of the Smallville-esque style on early Superhero costumes made out of garb found at your local store…..with a matching color scheme.
Buffy shall slay again…
Not exactly a “superhero” but she’s almost like the Batman version of Blade. And her television show was made into a comic book following its cancellation. It’s being rumored at the moment that Buffy will once again grace the big screen, she had once before without Sarah Michelle Gellar and Pee-wee Herman as the villain….so we’ll just forget about that one all together. The story has been conceived, apparently centering around the notion that Buffy is now a mother. If followed through, this
would be Joss Whedon’s 2nd feature film after the ever so awesome Serenity. Buffy has a pre-built fanbase and there’s very little female superheroes right now, so it would be a smart move. Furthermore, this is no doubt in response to the Twilight obsession that teen girls have embraced seeing as that series is a watered down version of Buffy and Angel’s relationship.
Wolverine leak causes firings left and right….even at home
Again, it’s not a secret that Wolverine leaked a few weeks ago. And not even the final film, but a work print with un-finished CGI, temp score, no sound effects and missing scenes. I myself
have not downloaded or seen this version of the film as I feel as though it’s unfair to see a film in such a state. It cannot be judged until it’s finished. Many fans have compared it to Batman & Robin. Now, I haven’t see the film, but even I think that’s going too far. There is no pacing, no emotional tension, nothing to suck you into the world and really grab ahold of you. Besides, movies as epic as Superhero films need to be seen on the big screen to really get the full effect. Regardless, one of the few positive reviews of the film came from Fox’s own Roger Friedman. Shortly after posting his review of the leaked film, Ain’t It Cool News began a protest calling Fox’s actions hypocritical by condemning the pirating of the movie but allowing their own staff to review it. Shortly after it was released that Roger Friedman had been released due to his actions. Friedman stated in Variety that he had not yet been fired, so I guess time will tell. The moral of the story folks is not to judge unfinished works of art and think you’re safe from prosecution. No one is.
