11 Questions with Sundae Jahant-Osborn. A WILDsound WINTER 2009 One Page Screenplay Finalist

1. What is your screenplay about?

It's a story as old as time. Teenagers thinking they can outwit their parents. But what they don't know - yet - is parents have not only been there and done that, they do it alot better. So bring it on.

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

I heard about somebody actually doing this. Clever – they deserved kudos for originality!

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

Always been film mad. Use to write movie reviews for my school paper when I was like 10 (what did I know!?). Started writing screenplays in high school. 42 now - don’t make me do the math! I don’t look a day over 41, swear!

4. What is you all-time favorite film? (name only one)

Raiders of the Lost Ark. It soooooo rocked!

5. What artist in the film industry would you love to work with?

Johnny Depp. Not just cause he’s hot...really. He’s a real artist who doesn’t take himself too seriously. And Lawrence Kasdan – my idol. He can write anything man, in any genre, for anyone… think Darth Vader - “I am your father,” Matty in Body Heat - “You aren't too smart, are you? I like that in a man,” and The Big Chill “Karen: You'll never get this many people to come to my funeral. Michael: Ohh, Karen, I'll come. And, you know... I'll bring a date.” Kasdan’s a legend. AND a killer director.

6. How many screenplays have you written?

Lets’s just say a lot. Took a lot of crap to get to right here, right now. Unless you were Ghandi or saved the world from mass destruction in a past life, that’s how it works, work. But I have 5 in development now.

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

Working! As a “for real” paid screenwriter, getting assignments – I’m told they really do exist! And one day, if I behave myself and be really, really good, maybe direct too?

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

Michael Chabon (Spiderman 2) nailed it “Write at the same time every day for the same amount of time. That’s it. That is the sum total of my wisdom.” Like that.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Born and bred beach girl. Mad for my kids, my dude, the surf, my ipod, travelling, stand-up comedy, theater, good mexican (cant find in London so just make it myself!), Wii (tennis and skiing, oh yeh), movies of course, art, and astronomy (if I wasn’t going to be a filmmaker I wanted to be an astronaut - or was it the other way round?)

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

Hit the wrong key, really. But in a good way! Just stumbled on it and the readings cracked me up - I wanted in! Really stoked I landed there! Great site, great festival, great organization.

11. Why should people VOTE for your One Page Screenplay and turn it into a film?

I think people should vote for what makes them laugh, or what they can relate too, that’s what makes film work on such a universal scale – were all surfing the same waves – or at least snorkeling in the bay!
