It’s about a new mother whose child is kidnapped by a supernatural cult. In the process they turn her into a half human / half demon who is hell bent on getting her son back.
2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?
I was interested in trying to pull elements from different sources that I really enjoyed and turn it into something that was my own. It seemed like a fun project and a good way to approach a new script. After all, that’s how George Lucas created Star Wars.
3. How long have you been writing screenplays?
I’ve been actively writing for about four years now but this was my first attempt at a pilot.
4. What is your favorite TV show of all-time?
There are too many that I like equally to name just one. Everything from “Star Trek” to “Freaks and Geeks”.
5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?
I’m more interested in meeting them and asking about their creative process. For me those people would be Joss Whedon, Quentin Tarantino, Greg Daniels, Richard Donner among countless others.
6. Who was your hero growing up?
Billy Wilder and Rod Serling
7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
I’d like to be writing for a successful television show that I’m excited to be a part of.
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
Absolutely. I begin with a basic list of ideas or events that I feel the story needs. Then, I organize them into an outline. I continue to build on the outline until it is so extensive that I start writing dialogue in the outline. I then transfer the whole thing to final draft and edit it down.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I’m very passionate about the visual arts in general. Whether it be television, film or webisodes. It’s amazing to me when you consider how many factors are involved in putting something down on film. I think it’s a triumph just to get a project finished. But to have it actually come out good? That’s a miracle.
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?
I think contests are a great way to gauge your material to see if it’s ready to be sent out. WILDsound was a unique contest because it accepts tv pilots and offered the chance for a table read. A table read is more important to me than prize money.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Never quit. With each project you’re just going to get better and better. Success in this business is more about persistence than it is talent.
