SYNOPSIS: This situation comedy takes place in New York's City Hall. It centers on Mike Flaherty, the deputy mayor, who has to protect the slightly moronic mayor, Randall Winston from those who want to ruin his political career, and from himself, cause he is constantly making an ass of himself and Mike has try and make sure that his little escapades are either not mad public or have very little negative effect on the mayor. Helping Mike is Carter, probably the least quirky member of the mayor's staff and Nikki and James. Stuart and Paul are two members of the staff who cause just as much problems. You go to bed early; you wake up in the morning and guess what…still tired! Then you change your sleeping regime. You take a long nap (because you’re too tired to continue working), you wake up and, that’s right…you can’t sleep at all. Repeating the same process for numerous days, I started getting used to it. So I decided to do something rather than just rolling in bed, turning the pillow to get the cold side or sticking one leg out of the sheets. I started to watch TV and fortunately, I was wide awake at the same time Spin City (season 3) was on. From all that I have seen, season 3 is full of amusing experiences all brought to us by our mind-blowing cast. This season is not short on guest stars either. From 26 episodes of this season, 4 of them feature the model Heidi Klum while other episodes feature guest stars such as Lou Diamond Phillips, Jeff Gordon, Christopher Lloyd, Bill Maher, among others. Things start seriously at the 1st episode with the announcement from the City Hall that the Mayor is ready for the re-election campaign. Nevertheless, you can’t say the same for the 2nd episode where the Mayor can’t stop laughing at inappropriate times. At the 9th episode “The Kidney’s All Right”, the Mayor makes a promise to give a child his kidney. A few episodes later he appears on Politically Incorrect and reveals that he is dating his secretary.
Season 3 is less about Paul, James and Stacy. A few episodes where they are the main characters start with the first episode when Paul teaches Stacy how to get a sick day without being sick. A few episodes later, Paul tries to fit in when he moves into Janelle’s Harlem neighborhood. Stacy has a shocking moment with Stuart, while James asks Mike to help him with his life savings.
The 3rd season for Mike is somewhat of a romantic comedy. It all starts at the 2nd episode “There’s Something About Heidi”. While the tabloids say that Mike and Heidi Klum are dating, Nikki reveals to Carter that she has a secret crush on Mike. Later on, Mike suggests a dinner date with Nikki’s fictional boyfriend named Arthur. At the 13th episode “Taxi Driver”, Mike impersonates a chauffeur in order to make a play on Nikki, by driving her boyfriend at the airport. While understanding his feelings for Nikki, Mike protects her instead of the Mayor during an assassination attempt; an action which makes him doubt Mike’s loyalty. Putting aside romance, Mike considers adopting an abandoned baby and later agrees to be Paul and Claudia’s sperm donor.
There are a lot more episodes which prove that once again, Spin City is a timeless classic. I would love to tell you more, but I think it would be a better idea to leave them for those days when you might have ‘sleeping issues’ (or not).
Enjoy Spin City!
