SYNOPSIS: This situation comedy takes place in New York's City Hall. It centers on Mike Flaherty, the deputy mayor, who has to protect the slightly moronic mayor, Randall Winston from those who want to ruin his political career, and from himself, cause he is constantly making an ass of himself and Mike has try and make sure that his little escapades are either not mad public or have very little negative effect on the mayor. Helping Mike is Carter, probably the least quirky member of the mayor's staff and Nikki and James. Stuart and Paul are two members of the staff who cause just as much problems. You change the channels but still can’t find anything to make you feel greater. Someone might say: What, sitcoms can’t make you feel better?? Well, that’s when I intervene. I felt the same way when season 1 of Spin City was over. I really felt the urge to find something that would make my day. After all the waiting, I'm proud to tell you my friends. I found the right cure for the tough-day feeling: Spin City Season 2! Yes, I admit it. I love Spin City. And it’s not because I might have a crush on one of the actors (Michael J. Fox). It’s simply because…simply because Spin City is hilarious. So, how about if I tell what makes season 2 so worth-watching that keeps me from frowning? Well, season 2 starts with Mike’s attraction to Mayor’s wife's divorce lawyer Laurie Parres (Paula Marshall). This allurement advances to love; a love that Mike chooses to confess to Laurie. He later makes up his mind to say goodbye to her after discovering that she doesn’t want a serious commitment (The Goodbye Girl). The same episode that Paul decides to propose to Claudia, Laurie returns in hopes of restarting her relationship with Mike. Finally, Mike announces that he and Laurie are engaged at the 18th episode “One Wedding and a Funeral”. A few episodes later, Mike ends everything with Laurie and goes on a date with an insane magician; a relationship which he has trouble ending.
Let’s continue with Paul. His loud mouth makes the press think he has suffered a nervous breakdown. Mike hires a psychiatrist to declare that Paul is sane, but the doctor commits Paul to an institution. Troubles arise for him when he gets sued by the security guard who shot him. At the 14th episode “The Paul Lassiter Story” Paul tries to convince the Mayor to put him in his autobiography. This episode marks the appearance of guest star Donald Trump. Paul’s last dilemma appears at the last episode of season 2 when Mike accidentally mixes up the date for Paul’s wedding with the date of a funeral.
Struggles for him end at the last episode of season 2 when he has difficulty confessing his sexuality to his childhood priest.
At the 2nd season, Stuart’s “mocking victim” changes from Carter to James. This is best noticed at the 3rd episode “Wonder Woman” when Stuart changes the engine of James’ remote-controlled boat. He also eats all of the chocolates that James received from his parents.
They say save the best for last. I chose the Mayor whose constant gaffes are emphasized at season 2. They start with the Mayor getting caught entering an x-rated video store, falling for a younger woman (Marla Maples), giving money to a known prostitute, breaking a Native American artifact and hiding the fact that he has lost his hearing. So from now on, when you come back home after a tough day, just do what I do: turn on the TV and watch this hilarious sitcom. And just in case the season is over (again, do what I do) buy the DVD and never let a day pass you by without having a good laugh. Laughing is good for your heart, remember?
Enjoy Spin City!
