Simon Ly is British born Chinese who has grown up in sunny London. From an early age, he developed a passion for creative writing, later channelling his talent into the scriptwriting form at college and university. As an up-and-coming writer with short films to his name and a few production credits, he is gaining the skillset required to succeed in the film industry. With a can-do attitude, this scriptwriter is willing to get his hands dirty and become an all-round filmmaker.
For him, it all started with five criminals. Verbal Kint, Dean Keaton, Michael McManus, Todd Hockney and Fred Fenster told a story that demonstrated what a film could really achieve. Directed by Bryan Singer, The Usual Suspects showed film’s emotive power through the simplicity of story telling. It lit the touch paper for a passion that still burns today. Before it, good films were exactly that but now films are more than that. Captivating, fascinating and above all entertaining, films have the opportunity to illuminate your life. This is an aim he believes all filmmakers should have and something that should never be taken for granted.
