Shabbir Merchant, based in Mumbai (Bombay), India is an independent film critic who started his career writing for Complete Cinema, a Bollywood trade magazine. He contributed for Complete Cinema's column On The Set / Off The Set and wrote the reviews for the weekly release. An engineering dropout, Shabbir completed his BA with History, but being a movie buff ended up writing for Complete Cinema, while he trained for screen acting under the able tutelage of acting guru Kishore Namit Kapoor, he also learned about the finer essence of World Cinema under him. Later he worked as Executive Editor for Chastity, a Men's magazine where he actively contributed to the entertainment section. Doing interviews with celebrities, covering events and reviews of music and movies was a part of his portfolio. With the advent of dot com, Shabbir joined Ultraindia.com as a Web-Editor. Ultraindia.com was a proprietary website of Ultra Videos, a video publisher and licensee of Warner Brothers, Univeral Pictures and Miramax, it started as a vertical that catered to Bollywood and Hollywood movies but with the burst of dot com it transformed to eCommerce site that sold videos in VCD and DVD online. Besides managing the content for the site Shabbir also managed the PR and production unit of sister company Ultra Movies Channel. From Ultra, Shabbir movied over to Social Network sites and worked as Content Manager for ZEDO Inc (a San Francisco based Ad Serving company) for their social networking sites ZEBO.com (product and brand) and later worked in establishing a movie based Social Network site FridayTadka.com. Shabbir welcomes freelance assignments from across the globe for Writing, Movie Reviewing, PR, Script Writing, Promo Designing, Graphic Designing and Promo editing assignments, etc
