Sara Gunnarsdottir

Sara Gunnarsdottir was born and raised in Iceland, around our capital Reykjavik city. Drawing has always been something that she loved doing and it has always been clear that drawing and artmaking would be a big part of her life. I started studying art in high school when she was 18 and then she graduated with BA degree in fine art from the Icelandic Acadademy of the Art in 2005.

This fall she's beginning to study experimental animation in CalArts, California. What intrests her most about this program is that it promotes animation as a fine art, where personal style and the artistīs view gets to shine. In the future she would very much like to produce art that comes from myself, to be able to use as much of my time to create her own art.

This wave of experimental videos that has been so obvious lately, with Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Chris Cunningham leading the way, has had big impact on her. She's been seeking inspiration in pop culture like MTV and magazines like ID and Dazed and Confused wrather than in the art world that she's been trying to live within. She's definetly part of this glam generation, where art, fashion and desing are part of the everyday life. She's very much into art in this multimedia world of magazines, DVDīs and cinemas.
