Sandman & Death
by Jen Frankel
pencil sketch

I was working in a comic book store near the time Neil Gaiman's Sandman series hit the stands. We all knew it was something special. That probably explains why I never bought a single first edition...

I've never been one for drawing or writing about other people's characters as a general rule, but I love this picture of Morpheus, incarnation of Dream - and his sister, Death, who has been memorialized by countless other artists as a kind of super Goth babe. The subtleties of the original pencil sketch are unfortunately somewhat lost in this web version.
