His mentor, veteran screenwriter Howard Browne, brought Rogers' work to the attention of The Rockford Files. Subsequently, one of the producers, David Chase (The Sopranos) hired Rogers to develop two pilots and to write multiple episodes for other series.
In addition, he has penned several television movies and feature film screenplays. His resume includes dozens of writing assignments for series such as Rockford, Magnum, P.I., Hunter, Cagney & Lacey, I'll Fly Away, Northern Exposure and Homicide. In 2000, he won the Western Heritage Award for writing the Outstanding Television Drama of the Year: "The Regulator" episode of the Showtime series, Dead Man's Gun. Since that time he has been unable to secure further work due to the ageism bias now pervasive throughout the television industry and is a plaintiff in the ongoing Class Action TV Writers’ Age Discrimination Litigation.
Roger's script HEART OF AMERICA was showcased at the WILDsound Screenplay Festival in July 2008
