Robert Zemeckis – Born in Chicago in 1951, Zemeckis started creating film ‘special effects’ in childhood, and later pursued film studies. A school award brought him to the attention of Steven Spielberg, who became his mentor. Despite which Robert struggled for his first break, until 1984’s Romancing the Stone. His previously rejected screenplay Back to the Future proved a huge hit the following year. Zemeckis would proceed to make hit crowd-pleasers such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Cast Away (2000), and of course Forrest Gump, which won him the ’95 Oscar for directing.
