11 Questions with ROBERT TEMPLE. A WILDsound WINTER 2009 One Page Screenplay Winner

1. What is your One Page Screenplay about?

It’s about a cunning mime and his murderous obsession with money, the rapid destruction of fame and the downside to strong-arm capitalism. Did I actually just say that? Basically it's about a village not big enough for two idiots or, in this case, a park not big enough for two mimes.

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

I wanted to push comedy into an extremely small cage with tragedy and see what they would do to one another.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

Off and on for about 8 or 9 years.

4. What is you all-time favorite film? (name only one)

I’m quite fond of “Raging Bull”. 5. What artist in the film industry would you love to work with?

I guess, at the moment, I’d love to work with Wes Anderson. He has such a unique visual style, and his use of music is always fantastic.

6. How many screenplays have you written?

I’ve written one feature-length and about six short scripts. The weight of a full-time job has really been doing a good job keeping my productivity down. Though lately I've been making some fantastic progress.

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

I would love to get paid to write. Not that I’m in it for the money, but a man (or woman) has got to earn a living.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

I usually just plop myself down at my awkwardly small desk and write. A large cup of coffee at my side is also a necessity. If I’m stuck on a scene, I find that walking around or doodling often helps.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Film and literature. Hot baths and sleeping in.

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound One Page Script Contest?

I think it's a wonderful idea.

11. Why should people VOTE for your One Page Screenplay and turn it into a film?

Because if you put the script on a turntable and play it backwards, the devil tells you to. Because voting for my script is on Obama's agenda for saving the Universe. Ideally though, you'll vote for my script because you feel that it's the one that you like best. Ideally.
