So the mantra “if at first you don’t succeed, try try again” has found it’s way into Hollywood. Not only has it been accepted, but it’s usually on a table before it’s even an issue, and what else should they abuse it on? Comic book films of course. It’s the only genre that it applies to (*rolls eyes*). No one would dare “reboot” Shawshank Redemption, Citizen Kane or The Godfather. But if you are going to do it, let’s make sure we’re aiming at the right targets before we let the arrows go…
Ghost Rider
Now, alright. Many people hate Mark Steven Johnson stemming from Daredevil, although I still think the directors cut shows his ability. This go around, however, I’m inclined to side on the air of caution. Ghost Rider was way too campy to be done the way it was. For such high caliber actors, I’m surprised they let it fall down so hard as it did. But then again, we’ve been down this road before with the Batman franchise. All in all, this movie needs to be “rebooted” but darker and darker and darker. Almost if not, the scariest badass superhero movie of all time. Rated R without a doubt. I know Marvel has sworn off R movies, but this movie needs to toe the line if it goes PG-13. I doubt it will even get thought for a remake, but I’d want it.
Daredevil
Sigh. Yes, I know I said I love the original directors cut. But the rest of you don’t seem to care (if you’ve even better to check it out). And sadly, the majority dictate the money and that’s the studios are after. What would you have to change for this movie? Uh…well, I’m not sure I’d know what to change seeing as I like the D.C.) That would be one that would interesting to hear some of your submissions on…hint hint….
Wolverine
As Hulk shows us, it’s never too soon to restart. While I enjoyed this movie, I don’t think the full potential of this series was captured in it’s origin story. It’d be nice to see Logan be a bad bad good guy. Even just a bad guy at one point. Doing things that you wonder how anyone could forgive themselves for. I’m no Wolverine aficionado but that’s what I’d like to see. Oh….and although I don’t mind it, but I know a lot of people did, for the sake of less headaches, don’t include Deadpool.
Superman
Let’s face it. Brian Singer, despite his honorable and good intentions, bored us to tears. We need something action packed. I don’t care if you hand the franchise to Michael Bay (don’t hate – Superman isn’t as “deep” as some claim he is.) or at least, for the first film he doesn’t need to be. We can and should save that for a part 2 territory. We a Superman film like Batman Begins. Not in a dark tone or mood. But it needs to accomplish the same outcome – remind us where the character came from and why we love them. That’s it. That’s all you need to do. Re-establish who they are and what’s great about them. In 2 hours, that shouldn’t be so hard to do when he’s inspired a genre that has consumed the lives of 12 year old boys since the 1930’s. I mean, come on, a character like that has to be awesome to some extent. Shouldn’t be that hard to figure out, just LISTEN TO THE FANS. Bam. Roasted.
In closing please do not remake Catwoman, Elektra, Fantastic Four or Punisher. I think we’ve had enough of that. Some films don’t need to be made into films at all ya know…
