REVIEW: Another okay episode…but nothing compared to what the show is capable of doing. This episode once again shows each member of the Bluth family spending money unwisely and suffering the consequences. Michael sells a portion of his unfrozen company stock to buy a car. He figures this is necessary because his son has been embarrassed to ride with him in the staircar lately. In something kind of out of his character, he doesn’t go for the cheapest or safest car. He goes for the one that seems to be the most stylish. The sports car he chooses has no backseat, but is a nice-looking car. This is definitely one that George Michael would not be embarrassed to ride around in. As Michael goes off and spends his stock, he gets upset when the rest of the family does the same to their portions. He thinks they can lose the company this way. Lucille uses hers to redo her bathroom, Tobias buys a nightclub, and Lindsay wants to put her money into a country club. None of them besides Michael really read beyond the word “unfrozen” in the contract. So in reality, the only one who is aware of the effects of their spending is Michael…but he still has bought the car anyway. Like I said…this is out of character.
We get a return from Liza Minnelli, who plays Buster’s old love interest Lucille Austero (or Lucille 2). She comes back after spending weeks at a treatment center for her vertigo. She is looking to restart her relationship with Buster, but he is now interested in the company’s new secretary named Starla. Honestly, I am not a huge Liza Minnelli fan because I think she’s a little on the weird side, but she does do well in this show. I’ll give her that. Lucille 2 has actually bought so many stocks from the Bluth Company that she has control since they all spent theirs. They feel this is in retaliation for Buster’s new love interest, so Buster breaks it off with Starla to save the family. Ironically enough, Buster is the last person I’d expect to be smart in this situation. But it turns out that Lucille 2 actually has bought these stocks out of support for the Bluth family and gladly helps the family regain control of the company in the end. Michael now has control of the company again…but not for long. Leave it up to Gob to ruin things. He goes to her apartment in an attempt to help, but actually makes things worse. After Gob leaves, not only has he slept with Lucille 2, but she’s now not going to give her shares back. Gob is happy with this because
So like I said, it is a pretty slow episode but there are two crucial misunderstandings that have me laughing pretty hard. Apparently all this time George Michael has been writing little letters to Maeby confessing his crush on her, but has never sent them to her. After Maeby leaves an unedited version of her new film script up in the attic, George gets a hold of it and edits it to keep him busy. Maeby, still not aware that George is in the attic, believes George Michael is her hero who edited her script for her. She tells him she saw what he wrote – and he assumes she is implying she has seen his letters he has written her. The best misunderstanding comes from Tobias (who else?). Like I mentioned earlier, he buys a night club. He is looking for entertainment dancers. He thinks a group of men outside the club are in a gang, but are in fact just the group of hot cop strippers that Gob knows. Tobias is shocked when they learn dance routines so quickly and thinks they are ready to strut their stuff around town. He believes he is safe because he’s with a “gang.” When they pass a real gang, they dance for them. One stripper ends up shot while the others get kicked and punched. Leave it up to Tobias to save an episode that seems to be lacking a bit.
