Play I’m working!!! I’m doing a new play in Ventura at the Rubicon. It’s called “Bad Apples” and it was written by Mark Stein who wrote “Mating Dance of the Werewolf” the play I did in Winnipeg where I met Wes, fell in love, had a baby. So it feels like it has come full circle somehow. We opened last Saturday and it went really well. I play an interesting character. She’s smart/dumb and sexy/funny with a surprising twist at the end. It is a dark comedy and the director Nick Degruccio is amazing. It’s one of the hardest shows I’ve ever done just in terms of costume changes and props and technical physical comedy stuff. Plus Wes was doing a Summerworks show in Toronto so I came out here with Jack alone. Rehearsing during the day and then watching Jack was challenging. I was lucky because I was staying at my parents so they were there part of the time. We had a hellish flight. United Airlines is really unbelievable. They cancelled our connecting flight to Los Angeles from Chicago so we had to stay at a hotel overnight. I was supposed to be at our first rehearsal at 10am but they assured me that the next flight would get me in at 9am with the time change. Jack didn’t want to be in a stroller so he basically walked across the whole terminal at 10pm. We had to get our bags and recheck them. Not only that while we were at the baggage claim he calls out to me “I’m pooping”. For some reason he announces it. The next morning, after sacrificing some nice sunscreen I forgot in my diaper bag to security. We show up to the gate and it says Salt Lake City. I go to the woman at the counter and she says that it isn’t a direct flight and that it will get in at 11 am. I tell her that they had told me that I would get in earlier. “The direct flight is full” she says “I’m sorry that they told you the wrong information”. It sucked. I freaked out. She just stared at me. As did most of the people at the gate. “What’s happening mommy?”. She told me to calm down and that I wouldn’t be getting on any flight if I was acting all hysterical. That shut me up. But boy. United sucks. Any money saved on the initial flight is spent on loss of sanity. But back to the play. I’m so so happy to be on stage. It’s really fun and exciting to be working on a new play. We literally did a different ending on each of the previews. I love the other people in the cast; Clarinda Ross, Eric Lange, Patrick Hallahan. So come and see it if you happen to be in Ventura. We close September 9th.
