Poem
a pair of music poems

These two guys used to be linked, and although I've severed them like two delinquents on trial, I figured they had enough in common thematically to place them together on a single page. Besides, you know, they're short.

I Remember

I remember when we opened for Hendricks
None of us could believe he was really there in the next room;
until our drummer decided he had to see his idol
When he came back there was awe in his face
like a hundred pound weight
and he said that most of us
were not meant to know the secrets of the future of rock and roll

Mr. Cohen's guitar wrangler was in the bar
Wiping the sweat from his brow
with his fourth beer
and he said in awe
that thing won't settle down tonight
I can't do a damn thing with it
god I mean
I'm a professional!
I've never seen it quite like this before

I Went To a Concert Once

I went to a concert once
when my lights got low
to sit in the glow while the songs rained down
And I scribbled on my gospels like a reviewer with a deadline;
the hall sang like fine crystal
And the points rained down on my bowed head
like needles of light
in a baptismal offering
in a burning cathedral
I, the unknown Christ
coming incognito
to my father's house
This is your body
This is your blood
