Poem
Dedication

Dedication takes me back to London Ontario in the heady summers of an early apartment from which it was a bare two minute stroll down a tree-lined street to the best little coffee shop in the world where Marjorie roasted beans that smelled like heaven and let me sit with my notebook as long as I wanted...

picked a white starflower for Marjorie
held cradled in my fist
only could steal one or
the neighbours would notice

she
smelled crinkled nose
& even in the coffee shop
burnt roast over every surface
she evoked pictures scents
sounds
cackle of an unseen bird
huge silence
heat
of this flower transposed
translated to South America
in the heart of the
rainforest
