Poem A Note to Curious Readers
This poem reminds me in retrospect of a favorite lyric "Epilogue (Nothing 'Bout Me)" from Sting's "Ten Summoner's Tales" which includes the great couplet "Pick my brains, pick my pockets / Steal my eyeballs and come back for the sockets"
Am I The one that left you, Or the ethereal muse? Or perhaps the girl next door?
Am I The face in your dreams, The body that touched you, The lover you never had?
Because You are The unknown. I don’t know your thoughts, Don’t live in your mind.
You are Just you, As I am myself. I can’t take the weight Of a dream. My shoulders would break, And you never would get To know me.
