The screenplay, "Darkhawk," is an adaptation of the comic book character created by Marvel Comics. It's about a young man who must struggle with learning to control powers he received while also trying to save, not just himself, but his family.
2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?
"Darkhawk" was actually written a few years ago, but what I liked about the character was that his family played an important role in his justification in using his powers, unlike lone heroes like Spider-Man or Batman, where they had little to no family involvement. In Darkhawk's case, his family is thrust into the danger, and the reason he needs to use his powers is to save them. It's not just faceless innocents, but his heart and soul.
3. How long have you been writing screenplays?
"Darkhawk" is the first completed screenplay I've written, though I am currently flitting back and forth on various ones. I am currently trying to finish a zombie horror script that has so far been different from everything else that's out on the market. (at least I hope so)
4. What is you all-time favorite film? (name only one)
I really loved "Infernal Affairs II," which is from the Hong Kong movie series that was adapted into Martin Scorcese's "The Departed."
5. What artist in the film industry would you love to work with?
Guillermo del Toro, his imagination thus far as been amazing!
6. How many screenplays have you written?
As said before, "Darkhawk" is the first complete screenplay, but I have a partially-written adapt of "Green Lantern," as well as my current zombie horror.
7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
It'd be too much to say I'd like to direct a movie, heh, but staying realistic I'd like to be at least able to sell a few scripts, as well as keep my day job of working for television (I'm currently a traffic manager in NYC).
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
I like to have music on when I write, as well as stay cool. Other than that, I prefer no distractions (no TV in the background and etc.)
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I enjoy socializing with my friends, listening to music, cooking, and taking photographs.
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?
It was a birthday whim. I saw that your guidelines accepted screenplay adaptations, and I had "Darkhawk" laying around, so I figured why not submit it. I could have at least something to show for my efforts. I had submitted it years ago (2003) to Marvel Studios, but they had never responded back. If this can win or get noticed, maybe they'll take a second gander.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Take your time writing, don't let others discourage you and remember to take breathers from writing - come back a few days after writing and see if the scene still works for your script. OH, AND ALWAYS SAVE!!!
