Peter Brusikiewicz first week living in New York City
As I sit here in my room waiting for my ipod to charge up, I decided to begin to write the second entry of my blog. It has been a very very hectic weak for me. I have been waking up at 730 in the morning everyday, leaving the house between eight and ten and always coming back somewhere in between 12am and 2am. I love it! I am experiencing New York to the fullest. I am living, eating, breathing, and shitting everything that New York has to offer. I have already went over my budget for the first month. But I figured that the first month is always the toughest because you are new to the area so you have to expect to spend more than usual until you get settled in. I have no choice but to get settled in because I have no money left.
Peter Brusikiewicz first week in acting school
Monday was the first day at school. It was orientation day. There are about 55 students in my acting program. I was nervous about the first day of school because I did not know what kind of people to expect. I had low expectations. My roommate would call me grandpa because I am 25 and he is 21. I thought that I would be one of the oldest in my program. That would have sucked because I remember the shit I gave my friend back at Sheridan college in Oakville for being one of the oldest kids in the program. But when I got there, I was happy to learn that I was about the average age. My roommate and me (my roommate is also in the one year acting program as well) would talk about this and he brought up some very good points. Here is the kind of people that we predicted that would be at school: 1) Older people that want a career change or that have finally developed the guts to try and go for something they always dreamed of but they were always afraid of failing and not succeeding; 2) Models who want to make the transition into acting and have made the money through modeling to pay for the tuition; 3) Rich kids who want a shot at fame and just come down here to party and go to school in between parties; 4) People that feed off of there own determination and come down here to concentrate on the work.
Peter Brusikiewicz fits in with the crowd
All of the above types are found at the school and more. There are people from all over the world ranging in ages from 18 to 30+.
Peter Brusikiewicz makes his mark(s)
The people that I have met are very cool and I have made a lot of friends already. I have already eyed the girls which will be getting hit on. And the ( I don’t know what else I can call it) Macking has already begun. But….I cannot forget what I came down here for. I have to discipline myself to stay away from the fun and games….I am here to work…work on me…through acting….all the fun and games I left behind in Toronto. I am getting too old for that shit. But I do keep careful with what crowd I keep around me. There are crowds who have been going out every night of the first week of school. There are also those who have a lot of money to blow and go for some sushi in soho for lunch. On Friday I decided to go with this one group of people for lunch to a local diner (I do not intend to be anti social and I still want to meet the people here). I ordered a salami sandwich and a diet coke….I ended up paying 18 bucks for this shit. And it wasn’t even that good. I payed for the location (SOHO) and not the food.
Peter Brusikiewicz and his reactions to school life
The school has made an awesome impression on me so far. All of my teachers are industry professionals. For example, one acting teacher has played in THE GOOD SHEPERD; another is an ADR supervisor and he has supervised and directed the likes of Al Pacino and Marlon Brando in the audio room; Another is a B-Unit director who has worked with the likes of Mickey Rourke (who apparently would show up on set an hour late everyday).
What is good about this school is that it requires your utmost dedication and determination. They shove their education down your throat ( in a good way). All I have to do is show up to my classes on time and just let them do whatever it is that they want with me. Shape and mold me into an actor that may one day be able to compete with the other millions of actors that you have in New York City. There are some students that I have met that think they are the shit, but you just have to keep your guard up with those fools and not be troubled by them. Classses for me run on Monday, Wedneday, and Friday from 10am to 8:30 pm with only one an hour lunch break. I love it! I have no choice but to dive into the curriculum. It will pick up even more after the first month when I have to spend all my free days working as well. So far, I had four classes this week: acting techniques 1; acting for film 1; text analysis 1; and meisner 1. Next week I will have an additional three classes added. I am also going to have voice and movement, where we are given a yoga mat and we are going to be doing yoga as well.
So far, all is good. I will keep you updated and let you know what is going on.
Peter Brusikiewicz and his ongoing laundry
Tomorrow, my roommate promised to show me how to do my laundry…if I learn how to do my own laundry, then the trip will be considered a success.
