Paul Bellini PODCAST - October 15 2008 - Paul prepares to moderate WILDsound's October Film Festival and chats with Matthew Toffolo about his writing process, writing for Kids in the Hall and This Hour Has 22 Minutes and developing his novel.
Paul was born in Timmins, Ontario in 1959, determined to be a writer as soon as he could spell. His first professional assignment was writing the Timmins High School column in the Timmins Daily Press at the age of 16.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies at York University in 1982, he embarked on a career that includes being a series writer on two of Canada’s greatest comedy series, The Kids in the Hall (1989 to 1995) and This Hour Has 22 Minutes (1995 to 1999).
Other noteworthy writing assignments have included co-writing the book Buddy Babylon (1998, Dell Trade Paperbacks); co-writing the theatrical shows Champagne Soul (1993) and The Lowest Show on Earth (2002); recorded two indie CD’s The Northland’s Own (1995) and Put Paul First (2000); and co-writing the independent films Hayseed (1997) and doUlike2watch (2002).
He has also worked on various other television shows as both a writer and producer, a career that has garnered three Gemini Awards and three Emmy nominations, and he has also published over 100 articles for the Toronto-based magazine Fab. He currently lives in Toronto, and is working on his first novel.
