THE ONE MINUTE MAILROOM is the story of how an unlikely friendship develops between two strangers in a corporate mailroom.

Over the course of many meetings, an office worker and a postman develop a surprising and supportive relationship. THE MAILROOM is a gentle examination of the progression of a relationship from casual remarks through misunderstandings to eventual friendship.

Directed by Matthew Toffolo
Story by Jen Frankel
Script by Dan Wettlaufer
Produced by Matthew Toffolo and Jen Frankel

Director of Photography - Dominika Dittwald
Editing and Music - Dan Wettlaufer
Sound mix - Mark Pollard

Starring Sora Olah and Peter Nelson
Narrated by Geoff Kolomayz

Shot on location in Toronto, THE MAILROOM appears on film in two forms, as a 12-minute short and as the one-minute tidbit above.

Our challenge to ourselves was to create a realistic and warm portrait of a friendship in process. We wanted to show how a relationship develops naturally in the course of daily life, from initial suspicions to a level of comfort that brings a bit of happiness to the participants.

"Discourse is fleeting, but junk mail is forever."
Joe Bob Briggs (syndicated film critic)

Fun Facts

THE MAILROOM was shot in chronological order, necessitating star Sora Olah to change between every scene. Since there was no dressing room available, Sora changed in a dead-end hallway behind a sports club owned by a local boxer. During one of her changes, the boxer came through the door from the club into the hall - it turned out he used the same quiet location for shadow boxing!

Director of Photography Dominika Dittwald and Director Matthew Toffolo worked together for the first time on MAILROOM. Dominika also shot PLAYTIME for Wildcard Pictures, and was First Assistant Camera on THE YARD SALE, and recently shot behind-the-scenes documentary footage for the new Paul Gross mini-series TROJAN HORSE.
