11 Questions with 2010 Screenplay Finalist

Natalie Welsh

1. What is your screenplay about?

To be honest, I don't know...! I just kind of came up with the idea...err?

2. Why did should people vote for your 1page script?

It's original, and it will make people laugh...with everything that goes on in the world, we need some laughs...

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

About three years.

4. What film have you seen the most in your life?

Probably "Raise the Red Lantern" and "E.T."

5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?

I'm lucky to intern with a great actress and producer right here in Toronto...I'd love to help her expand her company. If my Mandarin was better, I'd love to have tea with Zhang Yimou and talk to him about film making.

6. How many screenplays have you written?

That's hard to say...I have many story ideas floating in my head at the moment, a screenplay that's waiting to be revised, and another that's still in infancy.

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

Acting in and writing films that open people's eyes to the world around them. Also, studying under a great director who is willing to teach me the ropes.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

Not really. I find that people respond to a piece of writing that really came from my heart, as cliched as that may sound.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Asia and Asian culture, cooking, acting, and human rights.

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

I like what the people at WILDsound do. Anyone who wants to pursue a career film, or just wants to talk about the movies, can come out and discover what the world of cinema has to offer.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Go out and see the world...there are so many stories waiting to be told.
