Mr WoodcockOpened September 14th 2007 Directed by Craig Gillespie Starring Billy Bob Thornton Susan Sarandon and Sean William Scott John Farley (Seann William Scott), author of a best-selling self-help book about letting go of the past, violates his own advice when he returns to his small hometown to receive the community's highest honor. While there, John learns, to his horror, that his widowed mother, Beverly (Susan Sarandon), is engaged to be married to none other than Mr. Woodcock (Billy Bob Thornton), the gym teacher whose sadistic exploits were the bane of John's youth. Abetted by his nerdy old pal, Nedderman (Ethan Suplee), John plots to break-up the relationship. But their well-laid plans go awry. Robert's Review "Mr. Woodcock" was a complete waste of time. Thankfully it was only 87 minutes long, but still… that's 87 minutes I'll never get back. I really like the actors in this movie, but the movie itself isn't funny or entertaining… at all. I think I may have laughed twice. It really annoys me that Hollywood keeps pumping out these idiotic movies just to make a quick buck so they can stuff their pillow cases with cash and sleep tidy, knowing that it was all ill-gotten, but still funny (the joke being on the moviegoers of course). Overall, I would recommend saving your hard-earned $10 and seeing something else instead. "Mr. Woodcock" sucks and you've already seen all the good parts… they were in the trailers! All in all, I'd give this movie 1.5 Woodcocks (out of 5). Re-watch value: NONE (I would rather get kicked in the face). Brett's Review "Mr. Woodcock" is a very slapstick comedy that showed most of the good scenes in the trailers. I thought the performances were substandard for Thornton, Sarandon, and Scott, I expected much better from them. The movie was slow and not very funny, aside from the one or two scenes not previously shown in the trailers. Overall I thought it was not a very good comedy and I would have better spent my time drinking turpentine. Overall Rating: 1 Gym Teacher (out of 5). Re-Watch Value: None (No buying the DVD.) Trivia: (1) Billy Bob Thornton broke his foot during filming, while wrestling in a scene with Seann William Scott. (2) The Ramona Dynasty Band from Riverside California was featured as the local high school marching band in 2 scenes.
