A Las Vegas magician who can see into the future is pursued by FBI agents seeking to use his abilities to prevent a nuclear terrorist attack Robert's Review Cris Johnson (Nicolas Cage) is a cheesy Las Vegas magician with a secret… his power is real. He can see about 2 minutes into the future to see what will happen next, but only for things that affect him personally. The only exception to the 2 minute rule was Liz (Jessica Biel) who he was able to see far in advance, way beyond anything he'd seen before, but he doesn't know why. Is she the one for him? Is there some greater purpose behind it all? What will happen when he finally meets her? Who knows? Back to the main story… a 10 kiloton nuclear bomb has been stolen and is being deployed somewhere in the USA. FBI Agent Callie Ferris (Julianne Moore) is dead-set on stopping the nuclear attack, but she needs help finding it. She learns about Cris and firmly believes that his powers would be able to help her find out where the nuclear weapon will be deployed, allowing her to stop it in time. Cris, however, has no interest in being the FBI's slave. He knows they'd never let him go because his power would be too valuable to them. Agent Ferris is uninterested in Cris' personal feelings – she has millions of lives to save – so she uses all the resources at her disposal to capture him and force him to help her whether he likes it or not. As time begins to run out and tensions continue to rise, it's up to Cris and Agent Ferris to stop the bomb from taking out an American city. All in all, I'd give this movie 3.5 STARS (out of 5). Re-watch value: MEDIUM (I saw it twice already this weekend).
Brett's Review "Next" was another surprise from the weekend, it's about a Las Vegas showroom magician Cris Johnson (Nicolas Cage) has a secret which is a gift and a curse which torments him: he can see a few minutes into the future. Sick of the examinations he underwent as a child and the interest of the government and medical establishment in his power, he lies low under an assumed name in Vegas, performing cheap tricks and living off small-time gambling "winnings." But when a terrorist group threatens to detonate a nuclear device in Los Angeles, government agent Callie Ferris (Julianne Moore) must use all her wiles to capture Cris and convince him to help her stop the cataclysm. Originally I thought this was gonna be another remake of "DejaVu" or "Minority Report", however it isn't. The movie and story itself has something left to be desired, the cinematography wasn't all that great, the acting was ok, the story was sorta cool, however it was just a fun movie. The parts where we get to see Cris look into the future was really kinda cool, the casual approach he takes even when dealing with explosive charges, or snipers is kind of fun, and let's not forget Jessica Biel…MMMMM she is hot (that was good enough for me J.) If you go and see this movie based on that then you should have a good time, if you go expecting to see a blockbuster action thriller then stay home and rent it otherwise you will be disappointed. Overall Rating: 3 Stars Re-Watch Value Moderate (I will buy on DVD). Trivia: The film's translation in Russia is "The Prophet"
