Robert's Review

12-year-old Lewis is an orphan who has gone through a lot of adoption interviews, but he never got adopted. It's mostly due to that fact that he's a brilliant inventor and his science projects often go wrong and sometimes explode (and potential parents are quite scared by that). He gets the idea in his head that the only person who may want him is his real mom who left him on the orphanage steps. He then builds a new invention – a memory scanner – that should allow him to remember what she looked like and maybe even why she gave him up. Before he can get his answer, however, his invention is stolen by the Bowler Hat Guy and his evil robotic hat (and constant companion) Doris. Lewis gives up hope about his future and finding a family until he meets a mysterious boy named Wilbur Robinson, who claims to be from the future and wants to protect him from the evil Bowler Hat Guy. Lewis is soon whisked off to the future with Wilbur and a grand adventure unfolds – one that helps Lewis come to grips with his destiny and restores his hope in finding a family.

"Meet the Robinsons" is a great children's animated movie. It's full of vibrant colors and wacky characters (including robots, singing frogs and a T-Rex), and every single scene is very busy (with lots of different things going on all at once). In addition, this movie has a really great message for children – keep moving forward! – learn from your mistakes and never be afraid of failure because when you learn from your failures it means you are one step closer to succeeding! That's such a great message for kids and unlike other animated movies that embed lots of political and social propaganda (I'm talking about you "Happy Feet") this movie didn't have any of that kind of stuff. It just has one good, solid message and lots of stuff for kids to enjoy. For adults, the movie is cute, but nothing worth paying full price for at the theaters (unless you're dragging your kids to see it). You're better off waiting for DVD if you don't have any kids to bring.

All in all, I'd give this movie 3 STARS (out of 5). Re-watch value: LOW (for adults) and HIGH (for kids).

Brett's Review

Meet the Robinsons" is a wonderfully delightful movie, with a good story and message from Disney. Lewis is a brilliant inventor with a surprising number of clever inventions to his credit. His latest and most ambitious project is the Memory Scanner, a machine that will help him find his birth mother so they can become a family. But before he can find her, his invention is stolen by the dastardly Bowler Hat Guy and his diabolical hat and constant companion, Doris. Lewis has all but given up hope when a mysterious stranger named Wilbur Robinson whisks our bewildered hero away in a time machine and together they team up to track down Bowler Hat Guy in a showdown that ends with an unexpected and unbelievable twist of fate.

I found this to be a really good movie, however, for adults it is very predictable, but for kids there is a lot going on and the colors are bright and the message it brings is awesome. I think the whole family will enjoy this movie and kids will want to see it again and again. The voices were well done and the CGI was traditional Disney (and it was very good to see Disney put out a good movie again). I thought even though there were some plot holes and predictability, the overall movie was well done.

Overall Rating: 4 Stars (out of 5). Re-Watch Value: Moderate (for adults), High (for Kids) (I will most likely purchase on DVD for my collection).

"Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things…and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." --Walt Disney
