For fun loving party animal Ben Stone, the last thing he ever expected was for his one night stand to show up on his doorstep eight weeks later to tell him she's pregnant.
Robert's Review
Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl) is a 24-year-old up-and-coming entertainment journalist whose life is on the fast track. To celebrate her recent promotion at work, she goes out to the club for drinks and dancing and winds up having a one-night-stand with slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) resulting in an unwanted pregnancy. Faced with the choice of going it alone or trying to make things work with the Ben, she decides to give him a chance to get to know her and see if they might be able to make a relationship work for the baby's sake.
"Knocked Up" is by far the best comedy of the year. Writer/Director Judd Apatow (the same guy who created "The 40 Year Old Virgin") really knows what he's doing. All of the characters are well developed and hilarious. The script is brilliant and witty, turning intimate and private moments between the characters into comedy gold! Topics such as sex, masturbation, pregnancy, relationships, friends and so forth are brilliantly explored and I could not stop laughing the entire movie. The dialog and character interaction was incredible and very insightful. It's developed in such a way that anyone who
watches it can relate to the characters and really feel their fears, anxieties, desires, understandings, etc. However, the movie was a little long and there were some slow parts that muddled things down. If they'd cut out about 25-30 minutes of the 2 hours and 9 minute running time, it would have been perfect.
All in all, I'd give this movie 4 STARS (out of 5). Re-watch value: HIGH (I saw it twice already)
Brett's Review
"Knocked up" is a comedy about Allison Scott who is an up-and-coming entertainment journalist whose 24-year-old life is on the fast track. But it gets seriously derailed when a drunken one-nighter with slacker Ben Stone results in an unwanted pregnancy. Faced with the prospect of going it alone or getting to know the baby's father, Allison decides to give the lovable doof a chance. An overgrown kid who has no desire to settle down, Ben learns that he has a big decision to make with his kid's mom-to-be: will he hit the road or stay in the picture? Courting a woman you've just knocked up, however, proves to be a little difficult when the two try their hands at dating. As they discover more about one another, it becomes painfully obvious they're not soul mates they'd hoped they might be.
I found "Knocked up" to is a very enjoyable movie even though it was a bit long, and there were a couple of slow spots in the middle it still turned out to be a very funny movie. A lot of folks are saying it was better than "the 40 year old virgin" however I disagree, I still this 40 is the funnier of the two movies, "Knocked up" just a more complicated plot to it. This is also one of those movies that can give geeks like myself and Rob hope (we can go be a one night stand for a good looking woman) LOL. Overall this is a very cool movie and one worth watching.
Overall Rating: 3 Stars (out of 5). Re-Watch Value: High (I will most likely purchase on DVD).
Trivia: This movie was originally going to be a follow up to The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005), having Seth Rogen and team to reprise their roles as the Smart Tech team.
