TOP 100 MOVIES in 2007!
"Death at a Funeral" is a dark British comedy that's surprisingly funny and entertaining. The ensemble cast (most of whom I've never heard of) really worked well together and the situational humor and subtle jokes were non-stop throughout the entire movie… the pacing was excellent! Plus the movie was only 90 minutes, so it just seemed to fly right by and left me very satisfied and happy at the end. While I enjoyed all the performances, I think special attention must be paid to Alan Tudyk. I don't want to spoil anything, but suffice to say his character was given some Valium that wasn't actually Valium, and so he plays a character that is high out of his mind during the entire funeral! That must've been a fun role to play and he practically steals the movie – he's so much fun to watch. Overall, I was incredibly pleased with and surprised by how fun this movie was to see. I'd highly recommend it to everyone who wants a good laugh.
All in all, I'd give this movie 4 Valiums (out of 5). Re-watch value: MEDIUM (maybe again in theaters, but definitely on DVD).
I wasn't really too sure about this movie going in, however by the end of it I could not stop laughing. The humor and slapstick are pretty much what you would expect from a British comedy. I thought the acting was well done and they didn't overload it with so much slapstick that it took away from the story. The plot was well done and really shows a typical dysfunctional family no matter what country it comes from. The other thing I liked is the movie wasn't terribly long it was over before I realized it and I had laughed almost all the way thru. The audience reaction was just as amusing as the movie itself, with most everyone laughing and giggling almost all the way thru the movie. All in all, a fairly surprising and delightfully funny movie that you should check out and watch.
Overall Rating: 3 Coffins (Out of 5). Re-Watch Value: High (I will absolutely purchase on DVD.)
Trivia: This movie was filmed in only 7 weeks.
