11 Questions with MATTHEW RITTER. A WILDsound WINTER 2009 One Page Screenplay Finalist

1. What is your screenplay about?

It's about a little girl who's afraid of the dark, and her mom is trying to help her get to sleep. It is also about maglights. Oh! and undead wolf monsters.

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

I wrote another much longer screenplay that had a similar beginning. It sparked the idea for this one, so I wrote this one.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

About a year.

4. What is you all-time favorite film? (name only one)

Big Trouble In Little china. Hands down. You can say whatever you want about that film, but i will say that it is glorious greatness and pure amusement.

5. What artist in the film industry would you love to work with?

Everyone, everyone I could. People have such different and interesting takes on things. I'd love to work with them all.

6. How many screenplays have you written?

Ten or so.

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

In space, flying around the galaxy. It just seems romantic.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

Yes. I write and then I edit, and then I edit it again, and then i edit it some more. Then i realize how many spelling errors it has and get someone else to edit it. Then I edit it again. By this point it is still covered in spelling and grammar errors, but at least I've tried.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Life. Cool things.

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

I saw the contest. I had an idea for a one page script. I had ten extra bucks sitting around. It was fate.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

I feel it would make a fun, cute, slightly disturbing, short film that would be enjoyable to watch. I can't think of any other better reason to turn a script into a film.
