11 Questions with MATT HILL. A WILDsound WINTER 2009 TV Screenplay Finalist

1. What is your screenplay about?

It is a spec for "The Office." Michael performs magic at a children's birthday party while Pam throws a talent show back at the office.

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

I love great TV shows and can think of no better job than creating it.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

Five years.

4. What is your favorite TV show of all-time?

The Simpsons.

5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?

Stephen Colbert.

6. Who was your hero growing up?

Peter Jennings. My favorite show was the news. In an unrelated note, I had very few friends.

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

Living in San Francisco because I love that city and somehow writing for TV.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

I beat out the story first. Then when I write I spend usually two to three days on each scene thinking about the funniest way to do it and where the jokes are and then I write.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Comedy and travel.

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

Just wanted to get out there.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Hmmm. Now it is so easy to just shoot everything you write. I'd write tons and shoot what I think is good. Then I'd show it to people. The audience will let you know what works and what doesn't.
