Following the coat tails of Marvel’s announcement of selling out, err, eh hem, being bought by Disney, Warner Brothers and DC comics announced a new division between the company of DC Entertainment Inc. Copy cats. Seems like it may be nothing more than a PR move to stay in headlines alongside Marvel, but if their press release is true about how this division will be solely dedicated to getting the DC and Vertigo characters and their stories off the pages and into theaters, then good things are on our horizon. WB let’s He-Man Die It was announced this week that WB has let it’s contract run out with Mattel in developing Masters of the Universe into a feature film. Apparently WB execs and film makers and Silver Pictures could not agree on an approach to the film, which sucks because apparently the screenplay is far above anything that Transformers or G.I.Joe. One way or another, I’m pretty sure it’ll be better than it’s 1980’s counterpart with Dolph Lungren and Frank Langella……and Courtney Cox. But that film, as bad as it is, always has a place in my heart. Hopefully….it just doesn’t go to Fox. That’s all the fanboys ask. Hancock 2 has the luck of the Gods again Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman are set to return for the follow up to the half successful film Hancock. Peter Berg is also confirmed to return for the film. Rumor has it that another God will appear in this film that will effect them both. No word on who’s set to take that role just yet, but it’s been hinted that it’s a big name. Straight out of “What the hell land” comes the news that Rainn Wilson, star of NBC’s The Office, will star in a new original comedy “superhero” film called “Super” which is described as: Rainn Wilson, who last worked with Page in Juno, plays an average guy who takes on the pseudo-superhero alter ego of the Crimson Bolt, after watching his wife (Tyler) fall under the spell of a charming drug dealer. Lacking super powers, he compensates by swinging a trusty wrench. I honestly don’t know what to say about this right now, Haha. Ant Man and Pixar? Not gonna happen Following the announcement last week of Disney buying Marvel, fans feared that there would be “Disneyfication” to the Marvel Brand. CHUD.com caught up with Edgar Wright, director of Ant-Man for Marvel. Wright dismissed any claims of working with Pixar for his film, which has been on the back burner while he completes his other film. Here’s what he had to say: "I am still attached to Ant-Man and indeed am still working on a second draft with Joe Cornish. That had to take a back seat while I worked on Scott Pilgrim, but am keen to get back into it once I get into post. It's true that the character is not considered one of the Marvel brand leaders and that is precisely what excites me about it. I want to make a film inside the Marvel Universe that is something a little different; a genre film within the superhero genre so to speak. The news that Pixar is involved is not wholly accurate and a little premature to comment on. I love Pixar's work more than anyone and indeed would love to collaborate with them. I'm not sure though that they would want to do a 'shrinking' film as a Pixar animation - since Toy Story and A Bug's Life already cover this territory to some extent. Am guessing that someone just speculated on the 'bug' angle and tried to put two and two together. My spin on Ant-Man is very different than a straight superhero origin - and very much live action. At some point in this century, I intend to stop talking about it and make the damn thing.
