PODCAST interview with Mark Sanders. Mark discusses directing the one page screenplay winner PRONOUNCING and talks about the film festival circuit!
1977 – The Summer of Hate, the Punk Rock Explosion and the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. The latter event being the reason Mark spent that particular summer in London England. Although he was not even a teenager, he was swept up in the scene that smacked of sincerity, desperation, and provocation. On his return, he immediately formed a punk band, the DeGeneRats, They hung out, played and fought together well into the 1980’s. Mark’s musical career went synthetic and found him writing and playing in many bands, most notably Glamourcult who were nominated for CFNY U’Know and Casby awards and were featured on CFNY’s Hardest Hits #3.
Mark embraced the Punk Rock, D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) attitude and diversified his interests, experimenting with film, video, home recording, and electronic music. It was then that he turned his full attention to his other passion. Mark’s voracious appetite for film had earned him the nickname “Film Pig”.
Since 1984, this self-taught Film Maker has worked on over 40 films and 200 television episodes primarily as a Picture Editor but also in the capacity of Director, 2nd Unit Director, Sound Editor and Composer.
Mark directed the short action film “SPLIT CITY” about a college student with a dual personality disorder that transforms him into a Comic Book Super Hero. Mark also co-wrote/directed the short comedy “SNAPS” about Toni and Tanya, two crafty females in search of an unsuspecting patsy for an armed robbery. “SNAPS” premiered at the DGC Short Film Night. His latest short drama “The HARDEST JOB” is about an ex-con’s return home.
Mark was 2nd Unit Director on films such as the award winning cult phenomena "CUBE ZERO", "HYPERCUBE" and "AMERICAN PSYCHO 2". He also directed sequences for Dimension’s action films "HAWKS VENGEANCE" and "MASK OF DEATH".
Mark’s latest feature script “Boozecan” was co-written and adapted from a novel from Canada’s favourite Punk Rock novelist Chris Walters. It has been optioned by Mad Circus Films.
He is also currently in pre-production on the short comedy “BOYFRIEND LATTE” with the sketch comedy group “THE SKETCHERSONS”.
