Marilla Wex is a classically trained actress and recent immigrant from the UK. Acting has been her true passion since the age of four when she starred as Mary in her Grade 1 nativity play. Growing up in Stratford-upon-Avon didn't hurt her ambitions and neither did babysitting for the head of wigs and make-up at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre who got her tickets to any production she wanted to see during the mid- to late-eighties.
At the age of 16 she was accepted into the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and spent the next four summers in London performing in professionally staged shows in the West End, culminating in a transfer to the Moscow Arts Theatre in 1989 with a production of "Murder in the Cathedral".
After three years in the drama department of Bristol University (and two subsequent years placating her bank manager) Marilla won a coveted place at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She went straight from drama school to the BBC Radio 4 drama company and then into the Royal Shakespeare Company. She supported her theater work for the next ten years with copious amounts of voice work and corporate training through roleplay, where she honed her improvisational skills.
Marilla moved to Canada in the summer of 2005 to be with her husband Michael Wex and his daughter. She was lucky enough to find a terrific agent in Fran Messinger and has carved out a surprisingly successful niche in Toronto as an actress with a genuine English accent.
Marilla met Jen Frankel and Matthew Toffolo in September of 2005, has performed in a couple of the WILDsound Screenplay Reading Series (including Jen's MINNIE FINSTER) and appeared in three of Wildcard Pictures' films - SPEEDERS, PLAYTIME and, most recently, THE YARD SALE. She is delighted to host the WILDsound Screenplay Reading Series and enjoys working closely with such good friends.
