MADE OF HONOR
Classic Movie Review
Directed by Paul Weiland
Starring Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan
Review by Eli Manning

SYNOPSIS:

A guy in love with an engaged woman tries to win her over after she asks him to be her maid of honor.Free Video

REVIEW:

Full disclosure: I am a big fan of actress Michelle Monaghan. Her body of work so far has a lot of range for a young actress (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Gone Baby Gone, Mission Impossible III) and she's on her way to having a great career.

And I understand why her agents presented her with Made of Honor. It's a romantic comedy that is guaranteed to be marketed properly so a lot of people would see it. If it's a big hit, then Michelle Monaghan turns from a talented working actress to a huge box office star. It's a project that seems like a no-brainer in her and her representatives eyes. BUT if it turns into a bad film, then she's back to square one.

So Michelle, you're back to square one. Made of Honor is a head scratcher in this reviewers eyes. It has a pretty good concept that the world likes these days and it has two lead actors who are on the verge of superstardom. Unfortunately the script wasn't ready and the direction is borderline amateurish.

This is one of those films that doesn't offer a thing to the audience. You leave the theater the exact same person when you entered it and you leave feeling nothing except feeling ripped off. We've all seen this before in previous films and the question is why did they make this film?

And this film is offensive too to many people in our society. We are suppose to laugh at people who are trying to lose weight to fit into a wedding party dress! Like this is suppose to be funny. They had no new ideas to present us, so they were forced to resort to sex toys, male crotch shots and groping for humor. Funny this is not because EVERY SINGLE PERSON has seen this before 1000's of times.

This is one of those films that I hope makes no money at all at the box office. It's a film that takes society back a few notches and we the audience are looked upon as morons who will fall for the same movie all over again. This movie is a direct combination of My Best Friend's Wedding and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Day.

So Miss Monaghan, just pick projects that are solid.

A rule of thumb for any successful actor in this industry is the 2 out of 3 rule. In order to work on a project, you must answer YES to 2 out of the 3 questions:

- Is the script solid?
- Do you trust the director and want to work with him/her?
- Are your co-stars solid actors that you want to work with?

Michelle, if you're honest with yourself, you answered NO to all three questions. Just make good work with good people and your career will take care of itself.

1 star out of 4!
