After the Fall

#1 With a Bullet To My Brain

The lyrics for "After the Fall" were written for a mutual friend's birthday; Alison Kenzie wrote a beautiful melody for it, and we had a few opportunities to perform it together, me at the mic and her with the piano in front of her and her synth at the side. I never saw anyone else play multiple keyboards like that until I saw the crazily multi-tasking Tori Amos in concert, moving back and forth between half a dozen instruments and often playing two or even three during the course of a number.

I have been a girl who wanted
Always more than what was given
Afraid to see the seasons passing summer into fall
You take your chances as they find you
Not wasting life in short term worries
The ticking of moments; don't have to live them all

I've always lived for my salvation
Wasting life in empty causes
Living every day as if it came too late
You can live every day to its glory
Not lose this friendship, nor run too far
Ignore the knowledge quest, the chase of fate

The plate-glass surface of a darkened pool
Its depths beckon; I know the rules
Destined to leave me still a fool
Is there something I should see?
A distorted node of memory
Wrapped around the future me

I was the one who always wanted
Something more than what was given
Afraid to see the seasons passing summer into fall
Every day you prove my road the false one
Draw me out to face myself today
I guess I've always known it; you'll outlast us all
