11 Questions with Lata Krishnaswamy. FALL 2009 Feature Screenplay Finalist

1. What is your screenplay about?

How does a woman despised as a sinner, rise from the material world of moral dilemma to the pinnacle of a spiritual world and become the most loved and revered instrument of the divine?

2. Why did you decide to write this screenplay?

Well, the content just cropped up in my head and transformed me so I wanted it to reach maximum number of people. Being an ardent admirer of good cinema I have always been in awe with the power of this communication medium so I decided to learn the techniques of screenwriting and write it as a screenplay.

3. How long have you been writing screenplays?

Although I have written scripts for a lot of non – fiction short films and do also contribute a column to a holistic growth magazine this is my first attempt at a feature length screenplay.

4. What film have you watched the most in your lifetime?

Richard Attenborough's “Gandhi”

5. What artist in the industry would you love to work with?

I would have loved to work with Audrey Hepburn. 6. Who was your hero growing up?

On Screen - Gregory Peck, Richard Gere, and all time favorite Jackie Chan. Off the screen - Mahatma Gandhi. 7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

Writing and Directing feature films that leave you inspired as you walk out of the hall and linger in your heart long after it is watched.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

As a writer I just close my eyes and sit in front of my laptop for a while, and then just start keying in. For the screenplay however I wrote an outline story first then made a one line sketch of scenes and only then began to write the script.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Dancing. I am a classical dancer with over 28 years of experience on stage. 10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Script Contest?

Just came across the site as I was browsing. It sounded genuine so I entered the script.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

An idea doesn’t come to you for no reason so if you feel strongly about it go ahead and write it without bothering what others think about it.
